RWSA Board of Directors awarded the Odor Control Improvements project to MEB General Contractors, Inc. out of Chesapeake, VA and authorized the Executive Director to execute the construction contract at our April 26, 2016 meeting! This means that construction is slated to begin by the end of June.
The value-engineered rebid resulted in cost savings ranging from $700,000-$1,100,000 from the initial bid in December 2015; however ultimate project costs still necessitated around $500, 000 additional dollars from our capital budget in order to meet all the goals of the project. The board unanimously approved this request.
The contract specifies that the project should be substantially complete in 18 months, so we anticipate the work to be completed by the end of 2017.
We are excited to be underway with this long-awaited project– especially for our Woolen Mills and Carlton neighbors!
