Go green this Halloween and compost your pumpkin! Rivanna Solid Waste Authority (RSWA) will host the 7th Annual Great Pumpkin Smash Composting Event at McIntire Recycling Center, located at 611 McIntire Road Charlottesville, VA 22902, starting on November 6 to November 11, 2024 from 8:30am to 5:30pm. Participants will be able to “smash” their pumpkins by dropping them into a large container, which will be delivered to a composting facility. RWSA completed construction of the new Ragged Mountain Dam in 2014 to replace two aging dams at the same location. RWSA’s Beaver Creek Dam requires spillway upgrades to meet Virginia Dam Safety Regulations. The project is currently in the planning phase with construction to begin in 2024.
