Mulch & Compost for sale at Ivy MUC

Mulch for your home and landscaping needs is back in stock at the Ivy Material Utilization Center, located at 4576 Dick Woods Road, Charlottesville, VA.   The cost is $30 per ton. The Ivy MUC is also offering compost for $75 per ton (there are approximately two cubic yards in a ton of compost).  Both products are available for bulk loading onto your truck or trailer. The mulch is ground from vegetative waste at the Ivy MUC, and the SoilBuilder compost material is from the McGill Environment facility in Waverly, VA. Used Cooking Oil Collection at McIntire Recycling Center

The Rivanna Solid Waste Authority is pleased to announce it is expanding services at the McIntire Recycling Center (MRC). Through a partnership with Five Star Septic Inc., RSWA is offering a Used Cooking Oil (UCO) collection program. Visitors may now dispose of used, liquid cooking oil and grease at the MRC. Five Star Septic has provided a 300-gallon sealed container, located next to the MRC entrance, where customers can dispose of UCO and grease. What should you do with that old pizza box? It looks like good cardboard for recycling and it’s only a little (or a lot) greasy from the pizza or wings… The McIntire Recycling Center is now able to accept used pizza boxes for composting.  All you have to do is remove any containers of seasoning or sauces, and any plastic windows or pizza savers (that little plastic triangular legged device that keeps your pizza from getting smashed on the boxes lid; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pizza_saver). 2019-2020 “Christmas Tree Recycling Program” Information

The Christmas Tree recycling program is run by the Albemarle County Parks and Rec Department. This is a program that recycles discarded Christmas Trees that are chipped into mulch and offered to the public for free. The County Parks’ program has been in operation since 1988 and has collected an average of 2300 trees annually that yield over 110 cubic yards of chips. Combining forces with the City of Charlottesville’s Curbside Pick-Up, the joint programs collected 4100 trees yielding 200 cubic yards of chips in 2018.
